Dr. Irene condensed over 40 years of nutrition counseling strategies into one book! Irene Berman-Levine, Ph.D., RDN (AKA Dr. Irene) loves to teach and has taught 12 different nutrition-related courses a total of 50 times in 6 different universities...
(University of Pennsylvania, Boston University, Simmons College, University of Maryland, Messiah College and Penn State Harrisburg). She also runs Nutrition Program Planning, a nutrition consulting firm in Harrisburg, PA. For over 40 years, she guided institutional and individual clients in managing nutrition within today’s hectic lifestyles. Efforts included the development and implementation of Healthy Food Boot Camp, an 8-week program to foster healthy food behaviors for life.
Among her favorite projects included obtaining the grants to write Dr. Irene’s Nutrition Tidbits for 5 years and developing a K-12 nutrition curriculum for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Dr. Irene’s Nutrition Tidbits was a free weekly e-mail newsletter that was supported by a non-profit foundation in the early days of the internet. It exploded to over 80,000 readers because it was viewed as a trusted source of nutrition information. All her projects fulfill her desire to help consumers keep up with the ever-changing world of nutrition.
She has always been an advocate for individuals navigating the healthcare system. Before the days of electronic medical records, she co-authored “Personal Health Record”, a written binder that encourages individuals to communicate their health history to health professionals.
Dr. Irene completed her undergraduate work at Drexel University and her internship to qualify her for the exam to become a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. She earned her M.S. in Nutrition Education at Boston University and her Ph.D. in Community Nutrition at the University of Maryland.
Giving back to the community is important in her life. She has served on the board of Directors of the South Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, was a founding member and for years, President of the “Network for Better Healthcare for Woman” and is a past president of the Central PA Dietetic Association.
She has more interests than nutrition. She is a licensed auctioneer, animal lover, gardener, artist wanna be, and addicted antique toy collector. She is married to her life partner, Sam Levine, and has two grown married children, two grandchildren and three grand dogs.
